STORY

929 was Mazda's export name for the Luce from 1973, and from 1991 for the Sentia, so one badge covers very different cars. The odd one out is the Luce Rotary Coupe of October 1969, a front-wheel-drive two-door with the 1.3-litre 13A rotary rated at 126 PS gross, of which fewer than 1,000 were built. The HC generation of 1986 carried Mazda's first V6, from the J family in 2.0 and 3.0-litre forms. The HD Sentia went into production in March 1991 as the Japanese version of the large rear-drive sedan, with a 2.5-litre V6 at 160 PS in Japanese specification.
