STORY

Mazda unveiled the first BT-50 at the Bangkok motor show on 22 March 2006 as successor to the B-series (Bravo in Australia). It was built beside the Ford Ranger at AutoAlliance in Rayong, Thailand, and shared its 2.5 and 3.0-litre turbodiesels. Mazda explained the name as BT for its B-series truck heritage and 50 for the one-ton class. The second generation reached Australian showrooms in late 2011 on the Ranger T6 platform, with 2.2 and 3.2-litre diesels and a Mazda team styling its own body at Ford Australia's Melbourne studio. The third, shown on 17 June 2020, was a different truck: an Isuzu D-Max built at Isuzu's plant in Samrong, Thailand.
