STORY

Protege was the name used in North America and several export markets for Mazda's Familia/323 compact from the late 1980s to 2003. Valued as an affordable, sharp-handling small car, its final generation spawned the sporty Protege5 hatch and the turbocharged MazdaSpeed Protege before the line was replaced by the Mazda3.
