The Story

Why the 230 SL (W113) matters

Launched in 1963 to replace both the 300 SL and 190 SL, the W113 had the distinctive "Pagoda" hardtop and a safety body designed by Béla Barényi. It was sold as the 230 SL (1963), 250 SL (1967) and 280 SL (1968). It combined elegance with everyday usability. About 48,900 were sold through 1971.
