STORY

The CLE (C236) debuted in 2023 as a single mid-size coupé and cabriolet that consolidated four previous body styles into one streamlined model line, replacing the C-Class and E-Class coupés and convertibles. Built on the rear-drive MRA2 architecture shared with the C-Class, it split the dimensional difference between the outgoing two nameplates while adopting Mercedes' latest MBUX interior and design language. The range runs from the four-cylinder CLE 200 through the six-cylinder CLE 450 4MATIC to the AMG-developed CLE 53 4MATIC+ in coupé, cabriolet and MANUFAKTUR editions. By replacing multiple slow-selling variants with one efficient platform, the CLE reflects Mercedes' strategy of rationalising its coupé and convertible offerings. As a recent introduction it represents the current state of the brand's grand-touring two-door lineup.
