STORY
The EQA is Mercedes-Benz's entry point into battery-electric motoring, launched in January 2021 as the smallest and most affordable member of the EQ sub-brand. Rather than a bespoke platform, it adapts the front-wheel-drive MFA2 architecture of the GLA compact crossover, offering the front-drive EQA 250 and long-range EQA 250+ alongside dual-motor 4MATIC 300 and 350 variants. A comprehensive 2023 facelift (revealed at the IAA) brought a star-pattern Black Panel front, revised lighting, an updated MBUX interface and WLTP range extended to around 560 km on the 250+. Built primarily in Rastatt, Germany, it slots below the EQB and served to democratise the EQ line for European buyers seeking a premium compact EV. As Mercedes pivots toward its bespoke MMA/MB.EA electric architecture, the H243 EQA represents a transitional first-generation model destined to be succeeded by a purpose-built electric compact.
