STORY
The EQC (N293) was the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle launched under the dedicated EQ electric sub-brand. It was revealed in 2018 and reached customers in 2019. It is built on a modified GLC platform rather than a purpose-built EV architecture. In the single EQC 400 4MATIC version, two asynchronous motors give all-wheel drive, powered by an 80 kWh battery. As a transitional model it showed Mercedes' commitment to electrification before the ground-up EVA2 platform that produced the EQS and EQE. Reception was mixed, and the car was never offered in the United States as originally planned, which limited its sales. Production ended in 2023 as Mercedes moved to its purpose-built electric line. The EQC remains a historically important but short-lived first step.
