STORY
The EQC (N293) was Mercedes-Benz's first vehicle launched under the dedicated EQ electric sub-brand, revealed in 2018 and reaching customers in 2019. Built on a modified GLC platform rather than a bespoke EV architecture, it used dual asynchronous motors for all-wheel drive in the single EQC 400 4MATIC specification, drawing power from an 80 kWh battery. As a transitional model it signaled Mercedes' commitment to electrification ahead of the ground-up EVA2 platform that would spawn the EQS and EQE. Reception was mixed, and the car was never offered in the United States as originally planned, limiting its commercial reach. Production ended in 2023 as Mercedes pivoted to its purpose-built electric line, leaving the EQC as a historically significant but short-lived first step.
