STORY

The EQS is the electric S-Class in spirit, Mercedes-Benz's attempt to reinvent its flagship for the battery age. Launched in 2021, it was the first premium large luxury electric limousine on the market, built on a dedicated EV platform rather than adapted from a combustion car, and shaped by obsessive aerodynamics into one of the slipperiest production cars ever made.

That efficiency paid off in class-leading range, with real-world figures that outran even official estimates. Inside, the optional MBUX Hyperscreen swept a curved wall of glass across the entire dashboard, integrating three displays into a single dramatic surface. It was a statement of where Mercedes believed the luxury interior was heading.

Positioned as the technological showcase of the EQ sub-brand, and priced to undercut the petrol S-Class in some markets, the EQS carried the flagship's mission of debuting the future into the electric era.
