The Story

Why the F1 W17 E Performance matters

The Mercedes-AMG F1 W17 E Performance is the car the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team built for the 2026 Formula 1 season, the first under a new set of technical regulations. The team has competed as a works outfit since taking over Brawn GP in 2010 and won eight consecutive Constructors' titles from 2014 to 2021.

The 2026 rules remove the MGU-H, raise MGU-K output from 120 kW to 350 kW, split power roughly evenly between combustion and electric, and replace DRS with movable wings and Boost and Overtake modes. The W17 has a 200 mm shorter wheelbase and is 100 mm narrower than its predecessor. It is driven by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, and debuted at the 2026 Australian Grand Prix.
