STORY
The GLA arrived in 2014 as Mercedes-Benz's first subcompact SUV. It is built on the front-wheel-drive MFA architecture shared with the A-Class, B-Class and CLA. The original X156 was a low crossover that looked like a hatchback, and its top version, the GLA 45 AMG, changed the idea of the segment with a 2.0-litre turbo four making up to 381 PS. The second-generation H247 of 2020 grew taller and looked more like a real SUV. It had the MFA2 platform, MBUX infotainment and a wider AMG range from the GLA 35 to the 421 PS GLA 45 S 4MATIC+. The GLA is the entry point to the Mercedes SUV family and has been a big global success, especially in North America and Asia. The third generation, revealed in July 2026, is electric first and replaces both the previous GLA and the EQA.
