STORY

The GLC is the SUV that most Mercedes-Benz buyers now choose, the compact, C-Class-based crossover that sits at the volume heart of the modern range. It replaced the boxier GLK in 2015, adopting curvier styling and the unified "GL + class" naming that ties it to the C-Class beneath it.

Its timing was perfect. As buyers worldwide abandoned saloons for higher-riding crossovers, the GLC delivered exactly what they wanted: the comfort, technology and badge of a C-Class in a more practical, elevated body, with the option of plug-in hybrid and all-wheel drive. It quickly became one of Mercedes' best-selling models globally.

There is even an AMG GLC 63 for those who want a family SUV that can embarrass sports cars. Unglamorous but hugely important, the GLC exemplifies where the market and Mercedes' business have moved.
