STORY
The GLK-Class was the first compact premium SUV from Mercedes-Benz. It was launched in 2008 on the W204 C-Class platform to rival the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. Its deliberately upright, sharp-edged body took cues from the boxy G-Class and set it apart from softer-edged competitors. Engines ranged from economical CDI diesels to the 3.5-litre V6 in the GLK 350 4MATIC. The single X204 generation went through a comprehensive facelift in 2012 and sold well in the United States and China. It was never engineered for right-hand drive, so it skipped several markets. In 2015 the GLC replaced it, with rounder styling and the brand's revised alphanumeric naming. Today the GLK is a discontinued first chapter in Mercedes' now-extensive SUV range, remembered for its distinctive, tool-like silhouette.
