STORY
Mercedes called the A 45 AMG its first AMG car in the compact class; it had its world premiere on the first press day of the Geneva show, 5 March 2013; its 2.0-litre M133 turbo four was rated at 360 PS, and Mercedes called it the most powerful series-production four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. The facelift announced in June 2015 took that to 381 PS and 475 Nm. On the W177 body AMG added a lower rung first: the A 35 4MATIC had its premiere at the Paris show on 2 October 2018 with 306 PS, and the A 45 and A 45 S of 2019 used the newly developed M139, again assembled by one fitter, with up to 421 PS. The update shown in October 2022 kept both and gave the A 35 a 48-volt starter-generator contributing 10 kW.
