STORY
AMG's work on the C215 coupe started with the CL 55 AMG of September 1999, a 5.5-litre V8 rated at 265 kW (360 PS). From September 2001 the CL 63 AMG joined it, a 6.3-litre M137 V12 with 326 kW (444 PS). The autumn 2002 facelift gave the CL 55 AMG a supercharged V8 with 368 kW (500 PS), and the CL 65 AMG shown in Geneva in 2003 brought the 6.0-litre M275 V12 biturbo with 450 kW (612 PS) and 1,000 Nm; series production began in March 2004. On the C216 coupe the CL 63 AMG used AMG's own 6.2-litre M156 at 386 kW (525 PS) from November 2006; at Hockenheim in July 2010 the CL 63 AMG switched to the 5.5-litre M157 biturbo with 400 kW (544 PS), or 420 kW (571 PS) with the Performance Package, while the CL 65 AMG kept the M275 and went up to 463 kW (630 PS). C216 production ran out between November 2013 and January 2014, before the C217 S-Class Coupe.
