STORY

The production C219 CLS had its premiere at the Geneva show in March 2004, and the AMG version was announced by press release on 5 July 2004 and shown at Paris that autumn: the CLS 55 AMG, a supercharged V8 at 476 PS, in series from November 2004 and with customers in January 2005. The naturally aspirated 6.2-litre CLS 63 AMG arrived in 2006 at 514 PS. The C218 CLS 63 AMG had its world premiere in Los Angeles in November 2010 with the 5.5-litre M157 biturbo, gained a Shooting Brake estate in 2012, and in 2013 the CLS 63 AMG S reached 585 PS with 4MATIC as standard. Last came the CLS 53 4MATIC+, shown in Detroit on 15 January 2018 with a 435 PS straight-six and 48-volt assistance; no other AMG version followed on the C257, and CLS production ended in 2023.
