STORY

AMG's work on the E-Class began with the E 36 AMG of September 1993, a 3,606 cc six of 272 PS offered as a coupe and an estate, with the cabriolet running to June 1997; the saloon instead had the E 60 AMG. The E 50 AMG was shown at Frankfurt in September 1995 and built from January 1996 at 347 PS and the W210 E 55 AMG from 1997. At the Paris show of 2002 the W211 E 55 AMG brought a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 at 476 PS. The E 63 AMG had its premiere in New York on 12 April 2006 and reached buyers that June with the 6.2-litre M156. The W212 moved to the 5.5-litre biturbo in 2011 and the S version to 585 PS in 2013; the W213 E 63 S of 2016 made 612 PS. The E 53 HYBRID is quoted at 585 PS, or 612 PS with Race Start in the AMG Dynamic Plus package.
