STORY
Mercedes-AMG presented its first battery-electric production model from Affalterbach on 5 September 2021, days before IAA Mobility opened in Munich: the EQS 53 4MATIC+, built on the EQS platform rather than a drivetrain of its own. Order books opened on 14 December 2021 and the car was assembled in Factory 56 at Sindelfingen alongside the standard EQS. Two motors gave 484 kW and 950 Nm, or 560 kW and 1,020 Nm with the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which also lifted the limited top speed from 220 to 250 km/h. The facelifted V297 followed in 2024 with a larger battery, and the 53 stayed in the range. Mercedes has since said the EQS will not get a second generation and that an electric S-Class takes over instead.
