STORY
The first G-Class that Mercedes lists as an AMG model was the G 36 AMG of 1996, a 3,606 cc six of 190 kW built to 1997. The G 55 AMG followed from July 1999 with a 5.4-litre V8 at 260 kW, and from June 2004 a supercharged G 55 AMG Kompressor took over: 476 PS at first, 500 PS from September 2006 and 507 PS from 2008. For the facelifted W463 of 2012 AMG offered two engines at once, the 5.5-litre biturbo G 63 AMG at 544 PS and the 6.0-litre V12 G 65 AMG at 612 PS. The W463A announced on 13 February 2018 and shown at Geneva that March carried the 4.0-litre biturbo at 585 PS and 850 Nm, with torque split 40 to 60 front to rear, and reached the market in June.
