STORY
The line began under the M-Class name: the ML 55 AMG, shown as a study in Detroit in January 1999 and in series from December that year with a 5.4-litre V8 at 255 kW. The W164 ML 63 AMG was presented at Frankfurt in September 2005 and reached the market in the second quarter of 2006 with AMG's own 6.2-litre M156 at 375 kW. For the W166 the engine became the 5.5-litre biturbo: that ML 63 AMG had its premiere in Los Angeles in November 2011 at 386 kW, or 410 kW with the Performance package. The name changed with the facelift, and on 1 April 2015 the updated GLE and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 shared a double world premiere in New York. The GLE 43 of 2016 was a renaming of the GLE 450 AMG, in the SUV as well as the coupe. The V167 brought the GLE 53 in March 2019.
