STORY
On the W220 AMG offered both an eight and a twelve: the S 55 AMG of 1999 with a 5.4-litre V8 at 265 kW, sold as a conversion until Mercedes took it on as a complete car in September 2000, and from 2001 the 6.3-litre S 63 AMG at 326 kW, followed in 2004 by the S 65 AMG at 450 kW. A supercharged S 55 AMG arrived in 2002 and ran to 2005 in 5,938 cars. On the W221 the V12 came first, the S 65 AMG having its premiere in Detroit on 8 January 2006, with the M156 S 63 AMG launched in 2007 and the 5.5-litre M157 biturbo from 2010. The S 63 AMG Coupe was presented in New York in April 2014. The 4.0-litre biturbo reached the saloon at Auto Shanghai in April 2017. AMG's V12 ended with the S 65 Final Edition of 2019, 130 cars.
