STORY
AMG's first full version of the small roadster was the SLK 32 AMG, announced in November 2000 for the facelifted R170 and built from January 2001 to March 2004 with a supercharged 3.2-litre V6 at 260 kW. The R171 was presented at Geneva in March 2004, and the SLK 55 AMG that followed it into series production that September used the 5.4-litre M113 at 265 kW, which Mercedes described as the first time an eight-cylinder engine was available in this vehicle class; the car had already taken over as Formula 1 safety car at the Australian Grand Prix that March. A Black Series with 294 kW followed in 2006, and the facelifted R171 went on sale in April 2008. The last SLK AMG, presented in August 2011 and on sale from January 2012, moved to the naturally aspirated 5.5-litre M152 with cylinder deactivation at 310 kW. The 2016 facelift renamed the car SLC.
