STORY

Mercedes showed the first Vito to the press in Madrid on 16 October 1995 and put it on sale in Germany in March 1996, where it took over from the MB 100 D. It was built at Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country, the plant Mercedes credits with the van's name, and it carried the Van of the Year 1996 title, handed over at the Geneva commercial vehicle show that January; an electric version, the 108 E, followed in July 1996. The second family went to the press on 9 May 2003, still from Vitoria, with the passenger model renamed Viano. The third arrived in 2014 and reached North America as the Metris in 2015, and on 11 April 2022 Vitoria completed its millionth Vito and V-Class of that generation.
