STORY
The Mountaineer was built from 1997 to 2010 as the Mercury counterpart to the Ford Explorer. It was a mid-size body-on-frame SUV that shared the Explorer's engines and chassis design, with rear-wheel drive and optional four-wheel or all-wheel drive. The first generation ran from 1997 to 2001, the second from 2002 to 2005 and the third from 2006 to 2010. Each generation offered a 4.0-litre V6 and a V8.
