STORY

The Topaz was built from 1984 to 1994 as the Mercury counterpart to the Ford Tempo. It was a compact front-wheel-drive car that shared the Tempo's platform, styling and powertrains. The 1988 to 1994 cars were the facelifted generation, offered as the GS and, in sportier form, as the XR5 and the LTS. A 3.0-litre V6 became available in 1992.
