The original MG ZS, launched in 2001, was a sporting version of the Rover 45 saloon and hatchback created by MG Rover to inject performance and character into the range. The flagship ZS 180 used a 2.5-litre V6 and earned praise for its sharp, engaging handling, becoming a cult favourite. It was produced until MG Rover's closure in 2005 and shares only its name with the later SAIC-built ZS crossover.
The original MG ZS was a hot version of the Rover 45 saloon and hatch, tuned for keen handling.
