STORY

The Debonair was Mitsubishi's flagship sedan, shown at the 1963 Tokyo show and on sale from 1964. Hans Bretzner styled it, with the 1961 Lincoln Continental as his inspiration. The rear-drive first generation used a 2.0-litre six rated at about 105 PS and stayed in production, lightly revised, until 1986. It was bought mostly by Mitsubishi executives and officials. The front-drive Debonair V arrived in 1986, a limited AMG edition appeared the same year, and a twin-cam 3.0-litre V6 joined the range in 1989.
