STORY

In Japan the Galant debuted in 1969 as a four-door sedan, and a Galant FTO coupe followed in 1971. The 1976 generation split into the Galant Sigma sedan, the line's biggest seller, and the Lambda coupe. In 1987 the sixth generation added the VR-4, a 2.0-litre DOHC turbo with full-time four-wheel drive. Japanese sales of the eighth generation ended in 2005, closing the original Galant line of 1969 to 2005 in Japan; the Galant Fortis followed in 2007. These dates are for Japan; the Galant sold in North America and other markets followed its own schedule.
