STORY

Mitsubishi announced the i-MiEV in early June 2009 as its production electric minicar, priced at 4,599,000 yen in Japan. The motor made 47 kW (64 PS) and 180 Nm, and a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery gave a rated 160 km on the Japanese 10-15 mode test. Charging took about 7 hours at 200 V or 14 hours at 100 V, and a 50 kW quick charger brought it to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Deliveries to companies and local governments were due to start in late July 2009 on maintenance leases, about 1,400 cars in fiscal 2009, with sales to individuals due from April 2010.
