Minica 660

H2 (6th gen) · 1989–1993

The Minica 660 belongs to the sixth generation, sold from 1989 to 1993 as a three- or five-door hatchback. It reflects the 1990 kei rule change that raised the engine limit from 550 to 660 cc, and it used a three-cylinder 660 cc engine rather than the turbocharged Dangan ZZ unit.

STORY

The Minica, Mitsubishi's kei car, first appeared in October 1962. Its best-known version is the Dangan ZZ of 1989, built on the sixth generation: a 550 cc three-cylinder turbo with five valves per cylinder, which Japanese writers call the first five-valve engine in a mass-produced car. It made 64 PS, the same figure as its rivals and the voluntary ceiling for kei cars that began with the Alto Works. In 1990 the kei class moved to 660 cc, and the 550 cc Dangan ZZ was in production for about a year and a half.
