The A70 1400 SL (A72) of 1976-1979 is the later-phase mid-range Colt Lancer sedan. It keeps the 1.4-litre four-cylinder of the earlier SL, sitting between the 1200 and the 1.6-litre GSR, and differs from the 1973-1976 cars through the updates applied to the A70 range in its second half.

STORY

The Lancer began in 1973 as a small Mitsubishi sedan and ran through many generations. Its sporting version, the 1600 GSR with a twin-carburettor 1.6-litre engine, won the Southern Cross Rally in 1973 and the Safari Rally in 1974, and the name later carried the Lancer Evolution. In early 2017 Mitsubishi North America said 2017 would be the last model year for the Lancer sedan and that production would end in August 2017, because there was less demand for sedans and the company wanted to concentrate on crossovers.
