Montero 3.0 V6

L040 · 1982–19884WD

The 3.0-liter 6G72 V6 was the first six-cylinder engine offered in the first-generation Pajero/Montero, a rugged body-on-frame 4x4 launched in 1982. It joined the range in the late 1980s, above the four-cylinder petrol and turbo diesel engines, and it gave the model noticeably smoother power.

STORY

The first Pajero went on sale in 1982, and its first overall win in the Dakar Rally came in 1985 with Patrick Zaniroli. Between 1985 and 2007 Mitsubishi collected 12 overall Dakar wins, seven of them consecutive, and the Pajero was sold as the Montero in the United States. Mitsubishi ended production of the fourth-generation Pajero for Japan in August 2019, since meeting pedestrian-protection rules would have needed structural changes to the front end.
