The Airtrek 2.0 launched in 2001 as the entry version of Mitsubishi's first compact crossover, the CU-series sold in Japan. Its 2.0-litre 4G63 four-cylinder makes 126 PS at 5,500 rpm and drives the front wheels or all four, with the 2.4-litre GDI and the turbocharged Turbo-R above it.

STORY

The Outlander PHEV went on sale in Japan on 24 January 2013. It paired a 2.0-litre MIVEC petrol engine with a 12.0 kWh battery and two 60 kW electric motors, one on each axle. European sales began in 2013, and in 2020 it sold 26,673 units across Europe, the top-selling plug-in hybrid SUV there according to JATO Dynamics. The next generation brought a 20 kWh battery, with Japanese deliveries starting in December 2021.
