This is the fourth-generation Outlander (GN), sold from 2021 on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi platform it shares with the Nissan Rogue. A 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine delivers 181 hp through a CVT, with front-wheel drive or Super All-Wheel Control, and it is the petrol-only option beside the plug-in hybrid.

STORY

The Outlander PHEV went on sale in Japan on 24 January 2013. It paired a 2.0-litre MIVEC petrol engine with a 12.0 kWh battery and two 60 kW electric motors, one on each axle. European sales began in 2013, and in 2020 it sold 26,673 units across Europe, the top-selling plug-in hybrid SUV there according to JATO Dynamics. The next generation brought a 20 kWh battery, with Japanese deliveries starting in December 2021.
