STORY

The Pajero iO arrived in Japan in 1998 as the replacement for the Pajero Junior, which Mitsubishi had introduced in 1995 and which stopped production in 1998. It was a compact 4x4 offered with 1.6 L and 1.8 L GDI petrol engines, styled in collaboration with Pininfarina. A turbocharged 1.8 GDI version, added in 2000, is listed at 160 hp and 220 Nm in the Japanese catalogue, without a stated test cycle. Europe sold the car as the Shogun Pinin, and in 2002 Mitsubishi's Brazilian importer began building a version of it at Catalao as the Pajero TR4.
