STORY

The Precis was a Hyundai Excel sold in the United States under a Mitsubishi badge, at Mitsubishi dealers from 1987 through 1994. The Excel itself used a Mitsubishi four-cylinder engine, which Autoblog notes also went into the Dodge and Plymouth Colt of the era. Early cars came as three- or five-door hatchbacks, but from the 1990 update the Precis was left as a three-door hatchback only; ConsumerGuide describes the lineup shrinking that year from six models and two body styles to a pair of two-door hatchbacks. Sources quote different power for the 1.5 L engine by period, so none is given here.
