STORY

Sigma is a name that sat on more than one car. In Australia and New Zealand it was the market name of the Galant Σ, and in Australia the second generation ran from 1982 to 1987; the Magna arrived in 1985 and the Sigma stayed in production beside it. In Japan, Autocade says, the name was used from 1990 on a wider sedan related to the Diamante, a car sold only in Japan at first. A Sigma of the 1980s is therefore a Galant-based car, and a Sigma of the 1990s is a Diamante-based one, so the badge alone does not say which.
