The Space Star 1.6 is the mid-range petrol version of the DG-series compact MPV, built 2001-2005 on the Carisma platform at NedCar in the Netherlands. Its 1.6-litre four-cylinder produces 98 PS, with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, between the smaller petrol engines and the 1.8 GDI.

STORY

The Space Star was Mitsubishi's small MPV for Europe, based on the Carisma platform, which it shared with the Volvo S40, and built at the NedCar plant in Born, the Netherlands, from 1998 to 2005 according to Autocade. That 1.8 L direct-injection four is rated at 122 hp (90 kW), the 1.3 L at 86 hp (63 kW), with no test cycle given. Autozine's review of April 2000 found the GDI frugal and advised against the 1.3 for the 1,250 kg kerb weight.
