The Space Star 1.8 GDI is the top petrol version of the DG-series MPV, built 1998-2005. Its 1.8-litre direct-injection four-cylinder develops 122 PS, available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, and it is the more powerful alternative to the 1.6 and the 1.9 DI-D diesel.

STORY

The Space Star was Mitsubishi's small MPV for Europe, based on the Carisma platform, which it shared with the Volvo S40, and built at the NedCar plant in Born, the Netherlands, from 1998 to 2005 according to Autocade. That 1.8 L direct-injection four is rated at 122 hp (90 kW), the 1.3 L at 86 hp (63 kW), with no test cycle given. Autozine's review of April 2000 found the GDI frugal and advised against the 1.3 for the 1,250 kg kerb weight.
