STORY
Nissan built this small coupe on the B13 Sunny floorpan and sold it under three names: Sunny NX Coupe in Japan from January 1990, 100NX in Europe after an autumn 1990 premiere, and NX1600 or NX2000 in North America. The shape came from the company's San Diego studio under Jerry Hirshberg. The main feature of the car was the removable T-bar glass roof. It was an option at the British launch in April 1991, standard from January 1992, and replaced in November 1993 by an SR version with a steel roof. Japanese buyers started with the 1.5-litre GA15DS at 94 PS. In Europe the fast version was the 100NX 2.0 GTi of June 1991, with the 143 PS SR20DE shared with the Sunny GTi. After the 1993 facelift the 1.6-litre engine changed from a carburettor to injection, and in Britain its output rose from 89 to 101 bhp. Japanese production ended in 1994, and the Sunny Lucino took its place.
