STORY

The third-generation Z (Z31) arrived in 1983 with a 3.0-litre turbo V6, the VG30ET, rated at 230 PS in Japan, a gross figure of that time. Japan sold it as the Fairlady Z 300ZX and exports carried the 300ZX name. The Z32 followed in 1989 with a twin-turbo V6 that Nissan limited to 280 PS at home by an industry agreement, against 300 hp SAE net for export. In all, 164,170 Z32 cars were built before the line ended in 2000.
