STORY

The Altima was built in Smyrna, Tennessee, from June 1992 as a 1993 model and replaced the Stanza line. Early cars carried a Stanza Altima badge, and the only engine was a 2.4-litre four, the KA24DE, rated at 150 hp. The second generation, chassis L30, covered the 1998 to 2001 model years. The third generation, sold for the 2002 to 2006 model years, gained a 3.5-litre V6 of 240 hp, and the car was named 2002 North American Car of the Year in January 2002.
