The Story

Why the Caravan matters

Nissan's cab-over van arrived in February 1973 as the E20, sold as a van, a nine-seat coach and a fifteen-seat microbus with 1.5 and 1.6-litre fours. From January 1976 the same van went through the former Prince dealers as the Homy, and the two names ran side by side until the Homy was retired in 1999. Export markets had it as the Datsun Urvan and then the Nissan Urvan. The E23 of August 1980 started with petrol and naturally aspirated diesel engines and gained the LD20T turbodiesel at the facelift of May 1982. The E24 of September 1986 lasted until 2001 in Japan and until 2015 in Philippine assembly, and Isuzu took it as the Fargo from August 1995, then took the E25 as the Como. The E26 of June 2012 wore the NV350 prefix until it was dropped in October 2021 on petrol cars and in 2022 on diesels.
