STORY

The Cherry of October 1970 was Nissan's first front-wheel-drive car, a project inherited from Prince Motor, with a transverse 988 cc A10 four and a new Nissan Cherry dealer chain built to sell it; Europe bought it as the Datsun 100A and later the 120A. The F10 of September 1974 was called Cherry F-II at home and Datsun F10 in North America. In Japan the name stopped there, because the N10 of May 1978 was badged Pulsar, while the same car was the Cherry in Europe and the Datsun 310 in the United States and Canada. Across most of Europe the name ended with the N12 of 1982, though Greece kept it on the N13 Pulsar. The Alfa Romeo and Nissan joint venture assembled an N12 derivative near Naples with Alfasud boxer engines and front suspension, sold as the Alfa Romeo Arna and, in Britain and Spain, as the Nissan Cherry Europe.
