The Story

Why the Clipper matters

Nissan had used the Clipper name before, on a cab-over truck inherited from Prince and dropped in 1981, and brought it back in 2003 on a vehicle it did not build. The kei van and truck announced on 16 September 2003 and sold from 6 October were Mitsubishi Minicabs with Nissan badges, joined in 2007 by the Clipper Rio, a rebadged Town Box. The van became the NV100 Clipper on 25 January 2012, and when Mitsubishi stopped supplying it the donor changed: from 3 December 2013 the DR64 was a Suzuki Every, replaced by the DR17 announced on 24 February 2015. Nissan dropped the NV100 prefix on 26 March 2024 and went back to Clipper Van and Clipper Rio, while the Clipper EV that reached dealers on 12 February 2024 came from Mitsubishi again, a Minicab EV with a 20 kWh battery.
