The Kubistar was Renault's Kangoo with Nissan badges, built at Maubeuge beside the Kangoo itself, where Alliance production of the Kubistar began in 2003. Nissan took the first-generation van in its spring 2003 facelifted form, put it on sale from October 2003 in place of the Vanette, and followed the Kangoo through its later updates of 2005 and 2008. The range was Renault's: 1.2 and 1.6 petrol engines and the 1.5 dCi diesel in several outputs, although that diesel, the K9K, was an Alliance unit Renault and Nissan developed together. Sales ran into early 2009, when the NV200 took over, a van Nissan developed itself on its own B platform. The Kangoo stayed at Maubeuge and came back to Nissan showrooms later as the NV250, on sale across Europe from September 2019, and then as the Townstar unveiled in September 2021.
