STORY

Nissan announced the Lafesta on December 2, 2004 as a three-row minivan on its new C platform, with the MR20DE and an Xtronic CVT, and its main selling point was glass: a panoramic roof 1,500 mm long and 800 mm wide that Nissan called the largest sunroof on any Japanese minivan. The target was 5,000 cars a month, and the car was built at Nissan's Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka. The story then splits. On June 15, 2011 a second Lafesta arrived, the Highway STAR, which Nissan did not build at all: Mazda supplied it on an OEM basis, a Premacy under Nissan badges, at launch with a five-speed automatic on front-drive cars and a four-speed on four-wheel drive. The original stayed on beside it as the Lafesta JOY into 2012, and the Mazda-built car ran to March 2018.
