STORY

Nissan sold the Sunny under two names, and the Laurel Spirit was the version for Nissan Motor Store showrooms, a small saloon dressed in chrome and offered only with four doors. It arrived in January 1982 on the B11 Sunny platform, without the Sunny's 1.3, gained the E15ET turbo, 115 PS gross, as the Turbo XJ in January 1983 and a 1.7-litre CD17 diesel that November, and stayed in production even after the Sunny moved to the B12 body in September 1985. The second car, from August 1986, set the two cars clearly apart: its front and rear fenders were its own, a garnish covered the C-pillar, a mascot stood on the bonnet, and the 120 PS CA16DE twin cam topped the range. GA15 engines and full-time four-wheel drive followed in September 1987. Production stopped in January 1990, and the Presea took its place that June after 60,722 registrations of the second generation.
