STORY
The Magnite was meant to be a Datsun, conceived for the budget brand and moved to the Nissan badge after the 2019 restructuring that closed Datsun down. A concept appeared on 16 July 2020 and the production car on 21 October 2020, on the Renault and Nissan CMF-A+ floorpan it shares with the Triber and Kiger. Nissan called it its first SUV in India's sub-four-metre category, gave it a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder and 205 mm of ground clearance, and sold it in India from 2 December 2020 from an introductory 499,000 rupees. The facelift launched on 4 October 2024 with a larger grille and honeycomb-pattern tail lamps. For the car built at the alliance plant in Chennai, Nissan set a target of more than 65 export markets by 2026, up from 20 at that time. Left-hand-drive exports began in January 2025, and the first Africa-built Magnite left the Egyptian line in June 2026.
