STORY

The Maxima was first built in 1980 as a 1981 model and began life as a Datsun with a 2.4 L inline-six. The U11 of 1984 was the first front-wheel-drive Maxima, with a 3.0 L VG30E V6. Nissan promoted it in the US as the "4-Door Sports Car" in 1989 and again in 2016. The VQ35 3.5 L V6 with 255 hp arrived for 2002. The car lasted until 2023: in August 2022 Nissan told dealers, suppliers and employees that production would end in mid-2023, with the final car a 300 hp 3.5 L V6 with a CVT.
